The holidays are officially over and Chattanooga is taking it all in stride. The Scenic City does not slow down the in winter, in fact, we step up the social and fun events. It is almost like the entire city is afraid of cabin fever. With the temperatures in the 60’s this weekend, there is no reason to stay home. Get out and have some fun. Here are your best bets.
The 9th Street Stompers at Tremont Tavern
If you love swing, jazz and gypsy, you will love local band, The 9th Street Stompers, led by Lon Eldridge (if you have ever seen him, you know he sports a fantastic mustache). Tonight, you can hear the band, grab a beer and the best burger in town at Tremont Tavern. Go early, have dinner and then stay for some great live music. No cover. Tremont Taver 1203 Hixson Pike
Wayfinding with Map and Compass
One of the skills that I have always wanted to have is using a compass. I can read a map, but often get turned around when in the woods. This weekend, you can learn to find your way using a map and compass (something very useful on our hundreds of local trails). Registration is required, but the class is free. Register online. Saturday, 10-12 All ages. Outdoor Chattanooga 200 River Street
Tiki Pop Up
London Calling changed names this weekend and is now called Unknown Caller. Yes, you still call the number to get into the bar and yes, it is still a fun place to hangout. Tonight, you can shake the winter blues (it’s gray). Put on your worst Hawaiian shirt and your best smile and head to the Tiki Pop Up. There will be Tiki drink specials and the dancers will be putting on a tropical show! Escape the misery of January , even for just a little while and experience some tropical fun. No cover. Unknown Caller 715 Cherry Street. 5pm -2 am.
5th Annual Christmas Tree Bonfire
Tis the season! For burning Christmas trees that is! If you are a pyromaniac like the rest of us, or if you have never seen how scary it is when a dried up Christmas tree catches fire, then you must not miss the 5th Annual Christmas Tree Bonfire. Drop off your tree anytime before tomorrow afternoon or just show up and watch the blaze. Whoever brings the most trees wins a free night at the Treetop Hideaway (it is really cool). Bring your chairs, beverages, kids, dogs (on leashes) and enjoy this very primal event. The treehouses will be open for touring. 576 Chattanooga Valley Road. 6 pm-?
The Fountainhead Taproom Songwriters Session
We have a soft spot for The Fountainhead as they are our clients, but if you have not been in the serve yourself taproom, you are missing out. Saturday, local singer/songwriters will be gathering to perform classical guitar and blues. The space is very cool and open, the beer and seltzer is very delicious and of course, the local music will be an added bonus. Check out their Facebook page for future events at this wonderful local gathering spot. No cover Fountainhead Taproom 1617 Rossville Ave
We know the weather is a little damp this weekend, but you must rejoice because it is January and 60 degrees! Chattanooga is awesome because we have so many months of enjoying being outdoors and being able to get out to enjoy all the city has to offer. We hope you have a fantastic weekend!
