Congratulations! You made it through the holidays and two of the weirdest weeks (until next holiday season when Christmas and New Year’s are on a Wednesday). Time to get back to the real world, but first you have this weekend! Here are your best bets for fun in Chattanooga this first weekend of 2019
Wine Tasting and Food Pairing
Personally, my 2019 food fast comes next Monday, so I plan on eating and drinking whatever I want this weekend. If you are in the same boat, heat to the Virgola wine and oyster bar for the Wine Tasting and Food Pairing. What a great way to kick off the weekend, than by trying new wines and meats and cheeses that go with them. We know food can change the flavor of a wine, now you can learn why in a hands on way. Tickets are $25, event is 7-8:30. Virgola 608 Georgia Ave.
Milele Roots at HiFi Clyde’s
Live music is one of the joys of life and luckily, Chattanooga has so many opportunities to not only hear live music at the many venues, but also to hear live local music. Milele Roots has been around forever in Chattanooga and is one of the only reggae bands around. Catch them tonight at HiFi Clyde’s and get your 2019 off to good vibrations. 10 pm HiFi Clyde’s 122 W Main Street.
Bobby Stone Film Series
Last summer, Chattanooga lost a beloved and true supporter of the growth and arts of Chattanooga. The Stone family is honoring Bobby’s memory by screening beloved movies at the Tivoli Theater on a special screen. Movies such as National Lampoon Christmas Vacation, The Big Labowski and Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?, as well as others. Saturday, you can catch E. T. Tickets are general admission and can be purchased online. Two showings, 3 and 7 pm. Tivoli Theater 709 Broad Street
Holiday Window Treasure Hunt
One of the coolest things about living in Chattanooga during the holiday is our holiday windows. We are lucky to have the tradition that dates back decades and continues to grow where businesses all around town decorate their windows for the holiday season. Someone had the bright idea to have a treasure hunt and it has evolved from there. This is the 4th year of the North Shore Merchant’s Collective Holiday Treasure Hunt and the final weekend. All you have to do is pick up a game card from a participating business (available for a minimum $1 donation) and start hunting. All successfully completed treasure hunt is entered for a prize basket full of gift certificates and goodies worth $1,500. All proceeds go to the NorthSide Neighborhood House. Participating North Shore businesses include AVA, blue skies, Chattanooga Theatre Centre, Clumpies Ice Cream, Escape Mission Chattanooga, Four Bridges Outfitters, Frios Gourmet Pops, Glace Cryotherapy, GOOD DOG, Hair a go-go, Healthy Glow Studio, I Go Tokyo, In-Town Gallery, Learning Express Toys, Longhorn Restaurant, Milk Boutique, Nooga Paws, Olive Chattanooga , Plum Nelly, Renew All Things, River Street Deli, Sophie’s Shoppe, Tangerinas, and Whole Foods Market. Drawing will be held January 7th.
Polar Plunge
I am not sure how “polar” the plunge will be with the temps staying in the 40’s and 50’s in Chattanooga these past few weeks, but Sunday you can take the Polar Plunge at the Lula Lake Land Trust. This is the one day of the year that the public is allowed to swim in the lake which feeds into the falls. This is a fundraiser for the Lula Lake Land Trust and for those who are brave enough to plunge, features all you can eat chili and beverages, as well as a commemorative t-shirt. As a self proclaimed weenie about cold, I am happy they are offering a spectator ticket and the option to purchase food. Sunday 1-4 pm. $50 jumper ticket, $10 spectator ticket. Info about the event including parking info online. Lula Lake Land Trust, Lookout Mountain, Tennessee
Happy New Year from the Chattanooga Property Shop team!
