Happy holidays! I feel I can say that now that it is December! Chattanooga has a crazy amount of fun this weekend to get into, celebrating the holiday season, from a 24 hour block party to holiday lights at the zoo. Here are your best bets for fun this weekend in Chattanooga.
What started as a simple neighborhood party 11 years ago has turned into one of the most attended events in Chattanooga. Beginning Coffee and Jazz and ending with late night snacks at the Terminal Brewhouse, this party offers a hometown parade, drag show, story hour, hip hop dance party, petting zoo, opportunities for crafts, food and more. The entire schedule is a little overwhelming, but if you start on one end of Main Street and make your way down, you will find all kinds of fun things to do and see. Visit the website and make sure you get the full experience by going to the parade at 10:30. It is a must see! Main Street 7 am Saturday through 2:30 am Sunday.
Holiday Lights at the Zoo
I am a sucker for Christmas lights. I just love them. The Chattanooga Zoo does a great job with the lights and all of the fun that is the holiday season. Letters to Santa, caroling, cookie decorating, photos with Santa, carousel rides and more add to the joy of the young and young at heart attendees of the season. The animals are often more active at night, so seeing a hyena or a snow leopard moving about adds to the fun. Tickets are $9.95 for adults, $6.95 for kids and is half price for zoo members. 5:30-8pm. Open Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Tremont Tavern Anniversary Party
You will be hard pressed to find someone in Chattanooga who does not love Tremont Tavern. From Senator Bob Corker to our very own Carmen Patty, most people consider Tremont is the ultimate burger and beer joint. Their burgers are hand ground using locally sourced meat and the rest of their menu is delicious, including their salads and sides. Today, you can celebrate their anniversary with live music and specials. Three bands will be performing from 8- close including Jordan Hallquist and my favorites, Slim Pickens. Have a burger (my favorite is the Coltrane) and tell them Bob sent ya! 1203 Hixson Pike. Open til 12am.
If you are ready to get your Christmas shopping done, head to the Chattanooga Market’s Holiday Market. Held at the Chattanooga Convention Center, this indoor market features the vendors that you have seen all year long at the outdoor market. Find one of a kind items including art, jewlery, wood work, photography, pottery, local foods and more. Open Saturday and Sunday 11-5pm, this event is free.
