Joanie Sompayrac exemplifies what it means to be a native Chattanoogan. After attending the University of Tennessee Chattanooga for both undergraduate and graduate degrees, she earned a law degree at the University of Cincinnati. Joanie returned to Chattanooga where she is the Judith Finley Stone Alliance Professor of Accounting in the Rollins College of Business at UT-Chattanooga where she has taught for over 27 years. She is a licensed CPA in Tennessee and an attorney in Ohio. She has years of experience in estate planning, and has taught courses in estate and gift taxation and accounting for 25 years at UTC.
Because of her interests in various properties in her hometown, changing implications of the tax law and her love of working with people, Joanie decided real estate would be an excellent way to combine these interests.
She is Past President of the Accounting and Financial Women’s Alliance, Chair of the Finance Council at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Treasurer of Legal Aid of East Tennessee,. and she coordinates the Ladies of Black Creek Book Club. When she is not working, Joanie enjoys cooking, travelling, reading (at least 52 books per year), following Alabama football, spoiling her rescue pups Ella & Red and spending time with her husband, Tony Grossi.
